Riots in Mexico City left three confirmed dead with a fourth dying of injuries, while police and soldiers patrolled streets and arrests reached about 400. Outbreaks spread to other cities, with tensions rising ahead of vote tallies from Sunday's presidential election.
Superior and Intex report a Mississippian oil flow from the No. 1 Eva Laws and others in Northwest Scurry County after fracturing the Pay zone. The five and a half hour flow yielded 152 barrels of fresh oil with some fracture solution. swabbing continues in the Mississippian open hole. No. 1 Laws lies about 1.5 miles NW of Fluvanna in section 516-97-H&TC.
CIO leader Philip Murray tells about 18 000 steelworkers at Duquesne PA there is no defeat in sight as the six week strike continues. He warns companies resist is to split the union while more than a million are idled and production runs at 14.8 percent capacity after two settlements with Buffalo Forge and Buffalo Pumps.
Washington reports indicate living costs are at an all time high with food prices up 0.3 percent in June and rents rising. A Senate-House panel notes potential one to three percent lift within six to twelve months as clothing and durable goods rebound. Wholesale prices hover near plateau.
Fourteen Communist tanks backed by Chinese artillery and infantry attacked United Nations positions along the Nam River Valley in the Kumson area. The one hour battle ended with about 200 Chinese forces routed and Allied counts of 39 Communist dead with an estimated 30 more. The engagement used heavy armor and artillery totaling 1570 shells.
Dr. Walter Linse 48 a leader of the West Berlin Free Jurists was abducted this morning as he left his home in the American sector. The car sped into the Soviet zone while shots were fired and nails were scattered from the pursuing vehicles.
The 82nd Congress approved a $11.79 billion atomic expansion and foreign aid package plus $584.06 million for rivers and harbors and flood control, then adjourned with plans for the 83rd Congress to convene January 5, 1953. The impasses over an atomic rider and Hartwell dam funding were settled as both chambers passed the measures.
The Taft Eisenhower struggle for 93 contested GOP convention seats dominates day one at Chicago's Convention Hall as credentials battles in seven states unfold. Florida seats were awarded to Taft supporters, while New York delegates shifted toward Eisenhower. Taft Stassen urged California Republicans to unite behind the eventual nominee, with Warren and the 70 vote delegation courted by both sides.
A slow drizzle from a northeast cool front fell about 0.20 inch in Scurry and Snyder areas, boosting the yearly total to 5.12 inches. After a 103 degree high, the thermometer dropped to 55 overnight with 56 at 7:30 am. Lubbock led rain with 1.51 inches in 24 hours. observers expect more rain, though growers still need two inches this month to save cotton.
The Agriculture Department reports 11,225,000 acres planted to cotton in Texas as of July 1 1952 up from the 1940 48 average of 7 883 000 but at 91 of the record 1951 level. Dry weather and winds hurt yields while rains on July 8 offered hope for less abandonment. Cotton in Texas grown for American Egyptian variety reached 35,000 acres 140 of 1951 plantings. Nationally 26,051,000 acres were in cultivation as of July 1.
North Korea condemns the UN Command for killing two POWs and wounding eight on Koje Island last week in a protest to Gen Nam Il. The UN side reported two NK prisoners killed and nine wounded in separate incidents as the truce talks continued in their fifth secret session lasting 49 minutes. Brig. Gen. William P. Nuckols described the meeting tone as objective.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce says the Hermleigh rally will be in the high school auditorium if rain continues. Jaycee president Clyde Wilbern announced rally chairman John Boren will MC, with speeches by district and county candidates and precinct 3 commissioner, starting at 7:45.
General Dwight D. Eisenhower urged Republican unity at a Chicago breakfast with the Missouri delegation after his camp claimed a 22 to 4 seating margin over Taft. He warned Democrats must be defeated in November and vowed to maintain a disciplined path toward securing the nomination.
County commissioners yesterday agreed to consider adding one deputy in Hermleigh but took no action. Sheriff Merritt said he would hire a deputy if an automobile arrangement is decided. Hermleigh Mayor Richburg said the city could sell rent or lend its radio Ford squad car, pending council approval.

South Central Texas expects partly cloudy skies with scattered showers Tuesday. North Central Texas remains cloudy with thundershowers south and cooler Tuesday night. West Texas shows cloudiness and thundershowers with cooler temps Tuesday south of Panhandle and South Plains.
A five county manhunt is underway for two escaped convicts from Eastham Prison Farm in Houston County. Thomas S. Ballard and Walter J. Barnes fled aboard a tractor, one believed wounded in a gun battle with tenant farmer Solomon Haynes near Trinity. Police chase extended into Trinity and Huntsville areas as officers searched after the stolen car was abandoned near Huntsville.
