Congressmen push to end the 82nd Congress as House and Senate seek final passage of a 10 billion dollar omnibus for atomic energy and a 584 million dollar rivers and harbors bill. With quorum uncertain and conventions in Chicago, adjournment likely next week.

On the Western Front in Korea Cpl. Duane Gross of the U S Third Division finished frontline duty and planned to visit his brother Kenny of the 45th Division in Woodland Pennsylvania. A heavy Red barrage wounded and killed many, including Kenny, leaving Duane to confirm his brother's identity with medics and a chaplain.
Yesterday's near normal high of 100 set a hot pace and today began warmer with 80 F by 7:30 am. The 7:30 temperature sits well above the two week average of 72 F, while last night’s low reached 75, as recorded by Mrs. D P Strayhorn, weather observer.

A second tanker is under construction for delivery in September 1953.
A strong cool front from the Canadian Rockies moved into the Texas Panhandle, reaching Dalhart with 62 degrees and light rain. The Weather Bureau warned of possible renewed heat but expected the front to advance across Texas by Tuesday morning, offering relief to farmers and ranchers despite chances of scattered showers.
In Jackson Michigan rioters seized two guards at Southern Michigan Prison and wrecked the block. One convict was shot as state troopers withdrew after demanding assurances of dining, yard, and visitor privileges. The two-hour clash ended with guards freed and reforms promised.

The crossing ended near Bishop's Rock as gale winds whipped the ship. The voyage set America’s speed record for the first time in 83 years.
The court of criminal appeals orders jail terms and fines for Luther Tucker and William D. Lawdon on liquor law convictions. Tucker must serve one year in jail and pay $1,028.50 in costs. Lawdon receives 30 days and a $528.50 fine.
Two rival Texas factions clash as the Republican convention opens in Chicago. Delegates 22 Taft and 16 Eisenhower supporters dispute credentials amid a 22 16 compromise to be reviewed by the credentials committee. Leaders claim the other side偷 illegally elected and request repudiation.
