High Winds Lash Region Across North Texas
A fast moving windstorm hit the Snyder area Monday night with gusts up to 58 mph in the Plainview region. Trees were uprooted and a window broken at Higginbotham Bartlett Lumber Co as the front drove temperatures into the sixties. Showers, some hail, and a water spout near Corpus Christi Bay were reported as moisture dwindled to scattered showers by morning. Rain totals included Boyd 3.26 inches in 24 hours. other towns ranged from 1.81 to 3 inches.

New Gigantopithecus Jaw Found in India
Yale paleontologist Dr Elwyn L Simons and Dr S R K Chopra report a well preserved lower jaw from a new form of giant ape dating to the Middle Pliocene in Hemachal Pradesh India. The find at Dhok Pathan formation is the oldest jaw of a relative to man and apes recovered in Asia or Europe since 1876.

Texas House Approves Senate Tax Bill Amidst Session Tension

Airliner May Be Released After Soviet Concession
The White House said the Soviet government agreed to release a troop laden Seaboard World Airlines charter airliner that violated Soviet air space over the Kurile Islands after Washington expressed regret.
