Samuel Dash of the Senate Watergate panel emerged as the leading choice to replace David W. Marston as U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia. Dash met with Attorney General Griffin Bell for about 40 minutes, insisting he was neither candidate nor applicant and had not been offered the post. Separately, guerrilla leaders in Malta urged power sharing with Britain amid Rhodesia’s transition to statehood.

New York stocks continued Monday’s rally with the Dow Jones industrial average rising 1.04 to 773.48 by noon. Gainers edged 74 issues higher while the list of active stocks showed broad participation in the advance as markets tracked momentum from earlier trading.
