Oil profits should rise as risks and costs increase
Texas A&M University economist Dr. Peter S. Rose notes rising costs and greater risks in oil exploration, development, and transport. The study argues profits must grow to compensate investors for higher risk as capital needs accelerate, with estimates placing 1.3 trillion dollars in world oil capital between 1976 and 1985 and U.S. energy industries needing up to 816 billion dollars in new funds from 1977 onward.
