The Cullen Davis murder conspiracy jury has deliberated for about 40 hours. Prosecutors asked Judge Wallace Moore to urge continued deliberation using the Allen Charge, a seldom used instruction that a mistrial would require retrying the case with the same evidence before 12 jurors.
Seven people including a mother and her five children died in an early morning tenement fire in Jersey City ruled arson. Victims reportedly pounded on a window before firefighters arrived but were overcome trying to reach a fire escape. The incident follows a separate Hoboken arson fire that left at least 19 dead across New Jersey in three days.
The Agriculture Department plans to issue a report on planned planting acres for major crops for the coming harvest. The survey covers corn durum and other spring wheat oats barley flaxseed cotton rice sorghum and soybeans. A second survey will be announced on April 16.
Travis County District Attorney Ronald Earle announced an investigation to determine if Ford Motor Co should face criminal charges after a Pinto crash killed three people Saturday. Police held the Buick driver as Earle cited a precedent from an Indiana case where Ford faced grand jury indictments after five deaths in 1973.
