Nine Die As Tandy Jet Crashes Near Victoria Texas
An executive Lear Jet 25 owned by Tandy Corp. from Fort Worth crashed into a rice field three miles from Victoria airport in fog, killing nine aboard including Tandy VP Lewis D. Shaws and his wife Jane. Piloted by Glen Clifton with navigator Cecil Gibson, the craft disintegrated after hitting a power line and pole. Among the dead were Arlington officials from Hickok Wallet Co. and two Tulsa residents. FAA said the jet had clearance for an instrument approach at 7 42 a.m. after leaving Meacham Field.
