Florida State pursues rapist killer after dorm assaults

Florida State University reopened as police hunted a likely white male in his early 20s who killed two coeds and assaulted three others while they slept. Sheriff Katsaris said no suspect or composite could yet be drawn. The Tallahassee Democrat offered a 2500 dollar reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Area Receives First Rainfall Of 72 In Panhandle

The Snyder area recorded its first rainfall of the new spell Sunday night but gauges showed only 0.16 inch this morning. A cold front and arctic air moved southward bringing light freezing drizzle sleet and flurries to Panhandle sections while driving conditions remained hazardous north and northeast of Amarillo. Early lows ranged from the 20s in the Panhandle to 68 in South Texas with more cold weather and northerly winds forecast for northern areas by evening.

Local Employment Office To Move

The West Central Texas Council of Governments will lease space in the Line Building at College Avenue and 37th Street for both the local county-city employment office and the manpower program. The move, planned for February 23, aims to consolidate services and expand employment duties, with current offices in Scurry County Coliseum and city hall. The two offices will coordinate closely to provide enhanced orientation and cooperation.

New Agent To Be Assigned In Scurry County

Mrs Katherine Crawford district extension agent from Lubbock conferred with Scurry County Commissioners this morning on procedures for appointing a new agent to replace Ruby Butts who retires Jan 31. Crawford said she could recommend candidates and interviews will be arranged. The court also consulted Ed Vernon state highway department resident engineer on plans for the year.
