The 83,000 ton Seawise University, formerly Queen Elizabeth, capsized in Hong Kong harbor after 24 hours of fires. About 800 to 900 workers were aboard. 200 escaped by rope or into the water. Officials reported no confirmed deaths and considered arson while fighting the blaze.

Frank X. Wenetschlaeger 102, longtime Hermleigh resident and former farmer, died Sunday at Simmons Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater. Born in Bohemia in 1869, he immigrated in 1882, settled in Hermleigh in 1906, and was survived by a daughter, a son, six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Burial in Hermleigh Cemetery.
