In Bangkok Thailand AP reports Cambodian rebel proteges led by Heng Samrin claim complete control of Cambodia after allegedly capturing Phnom Penh and pushing Premier Pol Pot's government to the countryside. Analysts say Vietnamese troops likely did most of the fighting.
AP reports Voyager 1 began transmitting Jupiter images from Pasadena 37 million miles away. Frank Bristow of JPL says the pictures are fantastic as the craft prepares to approach 174000 miles from the surface on March 5. Voyager 2 will rendezvous in July for similar tests.
The French supertanker Betelgeuse exploded while unloading oil at a Bantry Bay storage terminal on Whiddy Island. Ten charred bodies were recovered and police said all 39 crew members on board the ship were killed. Firefighters described the blaze as clearly fatal for those aboard.
Gibril Shallouf and Abdul Latif Kikhia say Libya’s self determination stance for Palestinians is misrepresented by American news media. They disclosed the mission’s visit to Atlanta, claiming U S coverage is biased and that Libya has been a victim of newspaper propaganda.
Sporadic rioting broke out in Tehran as Iran marked a second day of mourning for hundreds killed in protests against Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Four persons were killed Sunday in Tehran and six other cities, with one man wounded by police gunfire today in Tehran.

A weekend winter storm left Snyder Ira and Hermleigh public schools closed for a fourth day. Sunday sun raised thaw hopes but some rural roads remained icy. Temperatures plunged to near zero in parts of Northwest Texas with dawn readings from one degree above in Darhart to 37 in Brownsville and McAllen. Forecasters expect mostly fair skies and warmer temperatures today.
