Gov. John Connally convened a six hour secret session at his Floresville ranch with 40 top advisers to map 1968 convention control and May 5 Democratic primary choices. Eugene Locke led a sample ballot among six to seven possible candidates, but no formal pledge was made.

statewide frost and freezing rain hazards persist across Northwest North Central Northeast and Southeast Texas with occasional sleet and rain. Temperatures dip into the 11 to 22 degree range in the north while highs reach 32 to 48 across regions and precipitation tapers by Tuesday afternoon.

Snyder voters will decide on a one per cent city sales tax authorized by the legislature. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at city hall, with the council meeting at 7:30 p.m. to review results. The tax aims to boost revenue while reducing the ad valorem tax rate if approved.
U S envoy Chester Bowles landed in Cambodia to press Prince Sihanouk on allowing pursuit of Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces using Cambodia as sanctuary. Sihanouk rejected military intervention and any pursuit into Cambodian territory, urging U S withdrawal and warning Johnson against pressuring him.
Mike Kasperak, a 54 year old East Palo Alto man near Stanford, is conscious and responsive after a heart transplant using Virginia White's heart. Doctors report stable vital signs a day after surgery, though the long follow up remains essential and uncertain.
Snyder High School Black and Gold Band earned recognition at Big Spring with Bruce Kenner on the all area band and Jimmy Davis on the all area band. Six additional Snyder musicians made the all region band including Susie Hendrix Judy Voelkel Anthony Brown Molly Walker Doris Everts and Jerry Tate. Earlier Snyder had 16 members named to the all district band as the statewide tryouts for the all state band approach January 20 in Lubic.
