Boren elected Snyder Chamber president for 1965
John Boren was elected Tuesday night to serve as president of the Snyder Chamber of Commerce for the coming year. Officers include Felix Jones as first vice president Herbert Feather as second vice president and H A Johnson Jr as treasurer. The annual membership banquet is set for January 28 with IBM executive T A Spain as speaker. The board also named Jones and Gene Best to the Industrial Committee and discussed plans to promote industrial development along with the Industrial Development Corporation. A budget committee was formed with Sterling Parker and Guy Sullivan. Woody Forrester’s contract as chamber manager was extended. A 200 acre site commitment for the Texas Hospitals special school was reported and a January 13 meeting set for the site selection committee.

President Johnson announced a 97.9 billion dollar budget for 1965 and a 25 percent cut in enriched uranium production. He declared an unconditional war on poverty, urged civil rights expansion, moon program by 1970, and expected cooperation with the Soviet Union on disarmament and space. He met Byrd and Mills to discuss the plan amid revenue projections and a deficit.

Hail and damaging winds were possible with activity expected to end around 4 p.m. The area includes Galveston Beaumont LaMarque Baytown Port Arthur Orange Texas City and nearby cities as a cold front moved in with showers across parts of North Texas and radar indicated rain from Fort Worth to Oklahoma and Dallas to the southeast.

Six Die In Sinton Highway Collision
Six people from Sinton, including Mrs Juanita Alaniz and three of her children, died in a car truck crash at the intersection of Farm Roads 1944 and 2046 five miles south of Sinton. The truck driver G L Moore of Taft was not hospitalized. The accident occurred about 30 miles north of Corpus Christi.
