Washington AP reports the Nixon administration will urge Congress to raise the federal debt ceiling from $430 billion by a near record amount within weeks. Treasury aides warn the limit could be surpassed by March 1 without action as the 1972 deficit is projected around $28 billion, the largest since WWII.

Treasury officials said the 1973 deficit size will shape the needed debt ceiling increase. As of December 30 the national debt subject to limit stood at 426 billion dollars and rising. A revenue drop and extra spending plus tax relief widened the gap. The government aims to cover operations through June 30 with emergency reserves, but a 1972 shortfall leaves about 4 billion dollars of headroom. Nixon budget chief said the 1973 plan contains no value-added tax and will be balanced on a full employment basis.

President Nixon to Seek Re election in New Hampshire Primary

Indictments Return in Scurry County Case load
A Scurry County grand jury returned four indictments. Antolina Hernandez faces murder charge for alleged Christmas Eve killing of Tony Silva. Billy Floyd Bennett is indicted for breaking and entering a motor vehicle and accessory to burglary. James Sanders faces burglary, pleaded guilty to that charge today and received a two year probated term. Bennett pleaded guilty to two charges with a two year prison term and returns to court January 20 for final sentencing.

Marion Case Moves for New Venue in Burglary Trial
The burglary trial of James Lee Marion is moved to the 132nd Court here by the 142nd District Court in Midland with Judge Wayland Holtman presiding. Marion seeks a bench warrant for transfer to Scurry County and requests appointed counsel for the proceedings. He allegedly burglarized the ranch home of Juliette Miller Turner in Midland on Oct 29 1963 and was indicted Oct 8 1968. Marion was convicted of murder with malice aforethought in Lubbock County on Mar 21 1964, initially sentenced to death but later commuted to life imprisonment.

Hijacker Heads Jet For Havana
A Pacific Southwest Airlines Boeing 727 from Los Angeles to Tampa was hijacked by a gunman and a woman with a baby. The plane refueled and then departed toward Havana after demanding a larger aircraft for an Africa flight. FBI and local authorities sealed the airport as flights were diverted.

104 Die As Spanish Jetliner Crashes Near Ibiza
A Spanish twin jet Caravelle carrying 104 people from Madrid and Valencia to Ibiza crashed in dense fog near San Jose. Rescue teams reported no survivors. 98 passengers and 6 crew aboard, including nine children. Initial reports suggested the aircraft fell into the Mediterranean.
