San Angelo reports 40 FHA loan applications stalled as lenders clash with farmers home administration over loan terms. FHA official says some 1955 loans are approved while 1954 loans require new conditions, amid calls for quicker drought relief and federal support from state leaders.
President Eisenhower backed a long overdue pay hike for Congress and federal judges urging a level matching their duties. Rep. Celler has introduced an 80 percent rise to 22,500 for members and 35,000 for Supreme Court justices, with other judicial and federal pay scales set to rise accordingly.
Washington Sen. Daniel D Tex said he will move to trigger a new investigation into the Peress case with at least 25 senators joining to back a resolution urging full public disclosure. Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co said it enacted under bond on January 1 a 10.7 percent increase in natural gas prices for wholesale customers across six Midwest states. The $7.2 million annual boost awaits approval by the Power Commission. any unapproved portion after a hearing must be refunded. The company previously sought an 18 percent hike ($12.13 million) based on a 6 percent return, but the commission nullified that higher request, allowing a bond-based adjustment reflecting the lower return.
The wife of Nevada's senior senator walked out during Oregon Senator Richard Neuberger's speech at the Women's National Press Club dinner in Washington. Neuberger assailed character attacks in politics and called for issue based campaigns, while Vice President Nixon and Senator Clifford Case listened. Malone stayed at table as witnesses noted a clash outside with hostess Perle Mesta.

Panama police held 34 year old U S citizen Martin Irving Lipstein in communicado amid a gang style murder at Juan Franco race track that killed President Jose Antonio Remon and two others. Roy Bettis questioned. ex President Arnulfo Arias linked to the weapons. Lipstein sailed from Vera Cruz to Venezuela before Panama trip.

SWEETWATER Texas Citizens of Blackwell population 400 protested the Santa Fe Railroad request to close the Blackwell station 28 miles south of here at a hearing led by Postmaster Maureen Stewart. Railroad representatives included W A J Carter L R Mitchell and Jack McMicken. Findings will go to the Railroad Commission for action.
A brief warm spell ended as maximum temperature reached 59 degrees and overnight low dropped to 26 degrees. By 7:30 this morning readings show the temperature rising to 28 degrees.
North Central Texas stays generally fair and cold with lows around 25 to 35 Wednesday night. Friday brings more clouds and light rain chances as temperatures rise slowly. West Texas forecasts fair conditions Wednesday with clouds increasing and lows from 18 to 28 in the Panhandle and South Plains and about 40 near Del Rio Eagle Pass. Friday shows mostly cloudy skies with light rain possible and gradual warming. East Texas remains fair and cold with lows 28 to 32 in the north and 30 to 40 inland south Wednesday night. Friday brings more clouds and cooler conditions with fresh northeast winds along the coast.
A cold north wind moved across Texas with a warming trend expected later as skies cleared. Early Friday lows ranged from 12 degrees at Dalhart to 54 in Brownsville with rainfall reported in several cities including Houston and Galveston before midnight Wednesday.
