A crowd watches as Gaither Bell of Bell Funeral Home and two others place the blanket-wrapped body of Linda Kay Miller on a stretcher at the crash scene last night. The scene is somber with onlookers lingering near the accident site.

Agriculture Commissioner John C. White warned the drouth emergency hay shipment program in Texas could end soon without extra federal aid. He noted $704,000 in federal and $185,000 in state funds have been spent in 60 days, with 98,740 tons of hay requested across 77 of 101 relief counties at about $13 per ton, split $10 federal and $3 state.
A 1951 Hudson sedan carrying Lennye Miller 40 Georgia Miller 42 Gary Miller 15 Linda Kay Miller 11 and Brenda Joe Miller 10 collided with Santa Fe Guilf Colorado freight at the Avenue E crossing in Snyder. Gary was found under the dash. all but one daughter perished instantly. The train crew and sheriff patrol the scene as investigators gather details. Funeral arrangements are pending at Bell Funeral Home.
A Santa Fe freight collided with a car at 7 30 killing five at Snyder causing damage to the engine. Nine minutes earlier a Lubbock life insurance salesman died in a collision with a Santa Fe streamliner at a Lubbock crossing. The passenger train delayed by engine damage reached Snyder at 10 30, 75 minutes after its 8 55 schedule.
Continued mild weather in Snyder featured a yesterday high of 66 degrees and a low near 25 overnight. The low rose to 27 degrees by 7:30 this morning as the weather observer noted.
North central Texas sees generally fair conditions this afternoon tonight and Thursday with slightly warmer tonight. East and south central Texas report fair weather and warmer tonight with partly cloudy mild conditions on Thursday and moderate to gentle winds along the coast turning east and southeast.
Wayne County prosecutors announce charges against Carl Renda Santo Perrone Peter Lombardo and Clarence Jacobs in the Walter Reuther assassination attempt case. Two suspects in custody one sought and another in a federal penitentiary. Warrant counts include assault with intent to murder and conspiracy to assault. The 1948 and 1949 shootings at the Reuthers homes remain connected to an ongoing investigation.
In St Catherines Ontario two construction workers Vasil Vasilenko 24 and Frank Zagar 23 received 15 day sentences for a Christmas Eve fireworks prank. They constructed firecrackers from explosive detonators and tossed them on steps at the Queenston hydroelectric project where they labored. A third worker John Kusiks 35 picked up an explosive and it exploded injuring his right hand permanently. Kusiks had trained as a pianist in Latvia for 16 years and hoped to pursue music in Canada.
Storm tides in the upper Adriatic smashed into the snow covered Po River delta flooding five villages with over three feet of water. Police and firemen used boats to rescue around 200 marooned residents awaiting help in upper story windows.
