Merrifield recounts sister's Africa captivity and village work

Marines Hit Hard By Communist Force Near Da Nang

U S Marines fight a strong enemy force about 20 miles south of Da Nang with airlifted troops and heavy sniper fire. In another action, the 173rd Airborne Brigade attacks north of Saigon, suffering 12 dead and 34 wounded as 31 enemy bodies are found after a nine hour engagement.

Frigid Front Moves Down Texas Snow and Cold Expected

The Associated Press reports a new cold front from the Rockies will bring snow rain and freezing temperatures to much of Texas by tonight and Friday. A fast moving snowstorm dropped three inches in Texarkana while Lufkin saw heavy brief snow. temperatures ranged from teens in the Panhandle to the 40s in Brownsville with Brownsville at 45 the state high.

Burglars Hit S H Green Stamp Center and Two Big Spring Stores

Robbers entered roofs to steal 40 dollars from the S H Green Stamp Center Christmas Eve and may have hit The Gold Bond store and Frontier Stamp Redemption Center in Big Spring. Police Chief Stephen Clark notes similar operation across the three break ins with a roof entry. One new clue has been obtained but details are withheld pending progress.
