Waylon Eugene Willett of 1600 Avenue G dies Tuesday at Cogdell Hospital at 7 p m. He was born February 19, 1912 in Cooper County Texas. Funeral services are pending at Bell Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife Lola Fanny Willett and a son Bobby Gene Willett, both of Snyder.

Mrs Wilson Gravely Ill In Washington Home

Mrs Woodrow Wilson, 89, gravely ill with a respiratory infection and complications, was holding her own this morning. Her physician said she has been ill for three weeks and worsened briefly, then showed slight improvement at her Washington home where the couple moved after 1921.

Soviets Seek Approval for New US Ambassador

Washington sources report the Soviet Union has asked the United States to approve Anatoly F. Dobrynin as ambassador to the United States. If approved by the White House, he would replace Mikhail Menshikov, who has served since February 1958, and bring a diplomat focused on international politics to Washington. Dobrynin previously served as head of the Soviet Foreign Office American affairs division and as a counselor at the embassy in Washington and at the UN in New York.

Christmas Holiday Traffic Toll Reaches 524 Deaths

The AP reports 524 traffic deaths over a three day Christmas period, the highest since 1955, with fires adding 83 fatalities and other accidents 86. The National Safety Council tallies 4523 roadway deaths, while last year’s figure was 488. The council projects 330 auto deaths during the New Year period starting Friday at 6 pm.
