The storm front bringing a white Christmas shifted across a vast area with freezing temperatures reaching Florida. Forecaster Arnold Sugg notes an icy Canadian air mass moved through Florida into the Caribbean as Florida records its coldest Christmas Day. Temperatures drop to the 20s in much of northern Florida, with 27 at Jacksonville and 24 at Tallahassee.
A new mass of cooler air nears Texas from the northwest expected to roll in midweek. Overnight lows dipped to 25 in Amarillo with most places recording 40s to 50s. Christmas Day highs ranged 58 at Beaumont to 69 at Laredo with no rain forecast or reported precipitation.
Texas regions from North Central to Southeast and Panhandle show clear to cloudy skies today with mild conditions, turning colder tonight and Wednesday. Highs range from the 40s to 70s across districts including Northwest and Southeast Texas, with lows from the 20s to 60s and chances of light showers in the north on Wednesday.
Ninety Congolese soldiers will wear blue berets and join the UN army at Kamina base in Katanga. They will guard the base and undertake reconnaissance alongside Indian Swedish Norwegian and Canadian troops. They will not be used offensively against Tshombe's secessionist government. The move heightens concerns in Kinshasa and may affect Katanga reoccupation prospects.

Mrs. James Moss the youngest sister of Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson died at age 49 from a cerebral hemorrhage. She passed away after returning from the LBJ ranch to Fredericksburg Texas.
Funeral services for Joe Adams 84 longtime Pyron area resident and Hermleigh postmaster will be held at 2 p m in the Hermleigh Church of Christ with Ralph Aycock officiating. Burial in Pyron Cemetery follows under Wells Funeral Home Roscoe. Survivors include daughter Mrs Mabel Gilmore and sons Schley Adams and Guy Adams.
Assistant Fire Chief G L Autry Jr urged removing Christmas trees soon as they dry daily and become more prone to ignition. He warned that delaying disposal increases fire risk and endangers homes.
During a 78 hour Yuletide period 521 people died in traffic crashes. Fires killed 83 and miscellaneous causes 85, pushing total violent deaths to 689. Weather contributed to the high toll as ice and snow hindered travel across several states.
AP reports a widespread cold spell across Europe from Scandinavia to north Italy. Temperatures fall below freezing, London and northern Britain see snow and ice hindering travel, and many events including horse racing and rugby are canceled. Fog and cloudy skies persist in parts of France and Germany.
Droves of helpers led by the Scurry County Sheriff’s Posse gathered at National Distributing Co. on Christmas Eve to deliver aid to 725 Scurry County families. The drive raised 2021.96 with a $10 unreported donation from Lyle Deffebach.
