The administration says consumers likely won’t see gas price cuts despite Ford signing a bill rolling back crude oil prices. Zarb warns oil producers and OPEC price hikes may neutralize any savings, with possible reductions of only 1.5 cents per gallon at most. The bill ends oil price controls by early 1979 and allows potential annual 10 percent price increases to offset small cuts. Ford argues rapid price-control removal plus windfall taxes to aid energy independence. He also removes the $2 per barrel import fee.
Mrs. George W. Lee, 83, of 1508 Twenty-first Street, died at 11 50 a.m. Monday in Cogdell Memorial Hospital. Funeral at Bell Seale Funeral Home with Rev. R Virgil Mott of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. burial in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Survived by four daughters, six sons, two sisters, 20 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Her husband George W. Lee died in 1973. She was born in Alabama and married in Cleburne on Oct 9 1917.
Snyder churches announce Christmas services this week. Calvary Baptist hosts a 7 p.m. program tonight, Colonial Hill Baptist offers a 7 p.m. Christmas Communion, and First United Methodist schedules a 6 p.m. candlelighting service Wednesday with Advent readings and creche, led by Rev. David Robertson. First Baptist plans a 6:30 p.m. candlelit Lord's Supper on Wednesday, Green Hill Baptists also hold a Christmas Eve service, Faith Baptist holds 7 p.m. Wednesday worship with a 7:30 p.m. candlelight communion, Grace Lutheran offers a 7:30 p.m. Christmas Eve service with refreshments, and First Presbyterian presents an 11 p.m. Christmas Eve Communion with Zollie Gaston directing music.

A winter storm in the western region spreads clouds across El Paso and West Texas toward the Panhandle. Forecasters expect light snow possible in the north Panhandle with up to four inches in central and southern New Mexico’s mountains, cooler temps across the state, and morning lows from 26 at Dalhart to 31 at Lubbock.
A 20 story Athena apartment blaze before dawn left two Dallas firefighters dead on arrival at Parkland Hospital. Captain Ralph T. Lack and Riley Hurst were removed from the 14th floor after the fire was controlled. Two other firefighters and two residents were treated for smoke inhalation as about 300 residents were evacuated. The fire began on the 14th floor and escalated to five alarms with 20 trucks and 75 to 100 firefighters on site. Cause under investigation. Residents sheltered on balconies in 32 degree weather awaiting rescue.
The Vienna seizing group linked to OPEC surrendered to Algerian authorities after freeing their last hostages in Libya and Algeria. Venezuelan minister Valentin Hernandez Acosta confirmed coding name Carlos claimed to be the gunman. extradition talks proceeded as authorities assessed the five men and one woman held by Algeria.
Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said the United States would not object to a Marxist faction taking control of Angola as long as the Soviet Union and Cuba stop backing it with a massive expeditionary force. He added the US will push diplomatically and on the ground to work with existing aid, denying any designs on the former Portuguese colony.
A domestic court jury awarded custody of 9-year-old Richard Calvin Risher to his father, taking the boy from his mother Mary Jo Risher, who cried on verdict day. The 10-2 decision came after over 22 hours of deliberation over multiple days as jurors weighed the case.
