Surrender Of Hijacker Ends A Tense Drama

Palm J Hinnant a 37 year old hijacker surrendered after a tense standoff begun Tuesday afternoon. Richard Funk 38 a United Airlines shop manager was wounded then treated at Peninsula Hospital. Jerry Dusenberry 42 a United Airlines mechanic was released unharmed. FBI agent Charles Bates led the custody. Lincoln Jones said the group planned the escape as the hijacker relented.

McFarland Decorations Win Christmas Lighting Contest

Mrs Irene McFarland of 2234 Sunset Avenue won first in the Snyder Jaycees Christmas lighting contest. Judges included Bob Clifton the Jaycees president. Second place went to Bill Eiland at 2807 Thirty Fourth Street and third to E T Hingon at 233 Sunset Avenue. Other participants included Richardson Murphy of 2311 Twenty Ninth Street Howard Brenneman of 411 Thirtieth Street and Irene Wagner.

New Schedule Cuts Snyder Hermleigh Phone Rates

A statewide rate reduction takes effect reducing monthly charges for residence and business lines in Snyder and Hermleigh. One party residence drops from 6.50 to 5.00 dollars, business lines from 14.50 to 10.50, two party and eight party rural rates also fall, while long distance and pay phone fees rise modestly. Directory assistance and some intrastate tolls see changes, with overall intent to save Texas customers money.

Post Office Remains In The Black In Snyder

The Snyder Post Office reported a surplus for Nov 5 to Dec 3 with receipts of 38849 and expenses of 37760. Postmaster Jack Tilson announced no mail delivery on Christmas Day as part of a five holiday schedule starting Thanksgiving, while normal service continues on Christmas Eve elsewhere.
