Mourners trooped by the bier of Walter Williams the 117 year old Civil War veteran in Houston as flags dipped to half staff across the nation. A funeral procession will move through downtown to South Main Baptist church with Union blue attire and Mount Vernon Sons of Union Veterans fife and drum corps performing. The body will then proceed to the Franklin country cemetery for military rites under escort by U S Fourth Army and Texas state highway patrol. Williams died Saturday after battling pneumonia and age related complications. Memorial services in Houston Music Hall will honor him with service organizations taking part. His daughter Willie Mae Bowles wept as she touched her father's head.
