The White House announced a three year pact between major railroads and four operating rail unions. It raises wages for about 120000 railmen by 23 cents an hour retroactive to Oct 1 with 2 cent yearly bumps and quarterly COLA links. Road service workers gain five cents now and five more Jan 1 plus the same COLA.
Production reported in Clear Fork Southwest Scurry County shows Hugh Birdwell wildcat pumping 30 barrels of 39 degree oil in 24 hours with 10 percent water. Other projects include J. M. Higginbotham No. 1 in Borden to test Pennsylvanian limes, Amerada No. 1 Adcock in Dawson County, Stanolind No. 1 Miller near Gail and the Chester L. Jones Howard County wildcat near Vincent.
MacArthur headquarters says American casualties in the Korea retreat total 11,314 killed wounded and missing in the worst fortnight, plus 1,011 UN casualties. Total 12,325, not including Korean losses. Chinese losses estimated at over 120,000. Through Dec 12, U.S. casualties exceed 42,000 since the war began. Second Infantry Division hardest hit with 4,131 casualties. Other UN forces listed include Marine Division 2,891 and various Army divisions.
Moscow dispatch reports the Soviet press charging that President Truman approved using Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist Chinese troops in Indochina. The plan was discussed by Truman Secretary Acheson and adviser Dulles after a Brink report.
New York December 21 reports that financial and commodity exchanges nationwide will close on Saturday December 23 and on Christmas Day December 25. Livestock reports will be issued as usual on Saturday December 23.
The Navy announced a 20 cents per hour pay raise for 2,850 civilian employees in the Corpus Christi area. The notice was given to Senator Connally.
Secretary of State Acheson came back from a brief Europe mission to face Republican challenges to European rearma ment policy and his tenure. He landed at 3 13 am EST after a 15 hour flight delayed by weather. He helped create a 1 million man international defense army and worked on a note for a big four East West meeting with Bevin and Schuman. He called the conference very successful and said it could aid peace.
Washington December 21 39 members short of a majority left the House with 179 present out of 435 as Speaker Rayburn and McCormack debated next steps. Officials sought absentees to reach 218 quorum before adjourning for the holidays. By 2 30 p m 197 members remained in town and quorum remained 19 short.
Most Snyder businesses will close Sunday and Monday for Christmas. Public offices in the courthouse and city hall close Saturday noon. County Judge Edgar Taylor and City Superintendent W. J. Ramsey note some shops may stay open sun but few Monday. Jan 1 1951 closings for city and county offices. commissioners court may meet briefly to swear in new officers. Gordons Drive In on the Big Snoring highway will be closed Dec 24 26 for remodeling.
Charred wreckage of a U S C M transport with 37 aboard was found high on a rugged mountain in Central Luzon. Search pilots reported no life signs. Among the occupants were U S Clark Air Base personnel and a civilian U S government employee. Far East Air Forces in Tokyo notified relatives but did not release names.
Charles E. Wilson, sworn in as director of defense mobilization, names Gen. Lucius Clay and banker Sidney Weinberg as assistants. Both will serve without compensation. Clay leaves the Continental Can Co chairmanship. Weinberg is senior partner at Goldman, Sachs. Symington attends and praises the appointment as Wilson pledges to gather essential facts and proceed with the mobilization role.

Adenauer seeks an occupa tion exit via a security treaty and a lasting Atlantic Pact acceptance after a Brussels decision to raise 150000 German troops for a 1 million man European army.
Joseph Stalin marks his 71st birthday with lavish praise from communist presses across Moscow East Berlin Prague Sofia Bucharest Budapest and Warsaw. They laud him as the greatest scientist leader of world peace defender of the worker and a great genius.
New York December 21 union officials warned of a possible strike by about 4500 Pan American World Airways mechanics and ground service workers. Wage talks broke off over eight cents an hour raise from 116 to 208 cents, with the company arguing wages are already high.
Frank M. Grandstaff, inmate composer of the 70 page Big Spring Cantata, nears a pardon from Governor Gordon Browning for a string of offenses. Browning said he would sign today or tomorrow and Grandstaff likely will leave Tennessee for Indiana or Texas. The cantata, inspired by Druggist Earl Philips, helped earn his potential release after a life sentence for Memphis larceny, with plans to marry Mil dred McConkey of Fort Wayne after freedom.
Senate expected to approve about 20 billion dollars in emergency defense funds to bolster air power tanks ships and manpower in Truman's Korea war push amid swift House action on civil defense and military public works measures. Senator McKellar led the fast track through committee and aims to repeat on the floor.
Tokyo dispatch says Hungnam beachhead quiet as Allied ships planes and artillery drive back Red attackers. Chinese and Korean Reds lie dead in snow along the east flank while western front reports show Red buildup behind Yonchon. Forces press on with continued air and naval strikes and mass withdrawals underway.
New York on December 21 1950 former Secretary of War Robert L Patterson warned of a real threat of Soviet strikes against the West in 1951 arguing against withdraw of American forces. He contrasted this with former President Herbert Hoover who urged hemispheric defense with outposts in Britain and Japan. Patterson insisted the United States should strengthen by men and weapons under General Eisenhower in the Far East under General MacArthur.
