On this date in 1773 colonists disguised as Indians dumped 342 chests of tea in Boston Harbor. Other notes include Napoleon’s divorce from Josephine in 1809 and the 1835 New York City fire that burned about 600 buildings.
The forecast shows Snyder with a high of 71 and a low of 31 today at 7 am. Northwest Texas will be fair with a low of 32 and a high of 76, varying by area from northwest to southeast. South Central and Southeast Texas expect milder or partly cloudy conditions with highs 68 to 82 and lows 42 to 60, while areas west of the Pecos remain cool and clear tonight with lows 28 to 48 and highs 62 to 78.

Federal indictments charge 55 individuals including reputed La Cosa Nostra boss Samuel Rizzo De Cavalcante with conspiracy to violate racketeering and extortion credit laws. The announcements followed a Justice Department strike force probe and FBI arrests described as the largest gambling roundups in the area.
A coalition of black groups declared an unofficial curfew barring whites from Negro areas 6 p m to 6 a m in Chicago. Leaders including Rev C T Vivian and Earl Doty said the curfew reflects anger over the Hampton and Clark deaths. Police reported no incidents. critics from Sen Chew and the ACLU rejected the move as foolish and unlawful.
Friday is the deadline for entering the Christmas lighting contest sponsored by Snyder Jaycees. Entries were arriving slowly at the Chamber of Commerce office, and a call to 573-3558 will place an entry on record. Prizes in both divisions are listed, featuring religious themed decorations and general outdoor displays.
The Scurry County Junior College board of trustees received two site proposals and began reviewing 11 president applications. Janisue Stiff offered 400 acres south of Cogdell Center for campus needs while Stella Fenton Webb proposed 151.86 acres across US 84 near the Beacon Motel with 15 acres extra usable. The board will focus on selecting a president, with the top administrator aiding in founding and launching the college.
Santa Claus plans to greet children today at Santa Land on the courthouse square south lawn between 5 and 8 p.m. Officials from the Chamber of Commerce note Santa will be available for photos and visits during the event.
290 research monkeys slated for death due to cancer virus program cuts are shipped to four NIH primate centers to be used as breeders. The inoculated primates show no cancer or virus spread and will be housed at centers in Atlanta Georgia Southboro Massachusetts Beaverton Oregon and Davis California.
