Iraq alleges the Syrian secret service planted a bomb that hit the Baghdad airport customs area killing three and injuring many, with ten hospitalized. Officials note rival Baath factions govern Syria and Iraq, and earlier reports claimed six dead in the blast.
Judge J Robert Bullock orders Gary Gilmore to be shot at sunrise January 17 following a 30 day requirement. Gilmore protests delays and refuses to withdraw a freedom application despite his attorney.

W R Dunlap 75 of Crosbyton a former Snyder and Scurry County resident was found dead this morning in a field near the former Murphy School after a bird hunting trip. Officials suggest a heart attack. He taught at several area schools including Fluvanna and was father of Roy Dunlap former Snyder City Manager now in Killeen. Body taken to Bell Seale Funeral Home Crosbyton with funeral rites pending in Crosbyton and burial planned at Ralls.
An audit of Fluvanna School District and policy changes for Snyder School District dominated a Tuesday night doubleheader session at the Snyder Public School administration building. Fluvanna formally accepted its 1975-76 audit. the district has been annexed to Snyder and Borden County. The Snyder School Board continued its agenda.
Snyder School officials report national trends of lower achievement test scores while course grades rise, noting declines since the 10 year period. Dr. Thomas Scannicchio cites data from October and says the issue spans from third grade through high school with no definitive cause. Weather report from Snyder notes high Tuesday near 57 and low 29 with 7 am reading at 29. West Texas stays fair with little change through Thursday. Big Bend valleys expect highs in the 50s to 60s and lows in 20s to 30s in the extreme south.
Santa arrives Saturday for an all day visit on the square in Snyder with a kids show sponsored by the Snyder Chamber of Commerce and a free 12 noon and 2 p.m. movie at Cinema Theatres. Flight of the Lost Balloon runs 85 minutes. Santa may also meet families at Winston Field.

Unclaimed tickets 017227 for 150 and 064442 for 50 must be claimed by 5 p.m. Thursday.
