Southwestern Bell officials said they will appeal for a rehearing and possibly pursue court action to overturn a Public Utility Commission order granting only a minor portion of their requested rate increases. Doyle E. Rogers called the decision shocking and sickening.
A government analysis shows wheat held over from 1976 and earlier harvests near 1.02 billion bushels, about 70 million above forecasts. Farm prices have fallen to an average of 2.46 per bushel nationwide, down from 3.58 last November, signaling major farm challenges for the Carter administration next year.

Readings show high 47 and low 34 with 7 am temp 39 and trace precipitation. West Texas remains fair through Wednesday with cooler conditions in the southeast tonight and north Wednesday. Panhandle and mountains dip to the 20s tonight with mid 30s in the south. Wednesday highs reach the 50s in the Panhandle to near 60 in the Big Bend valleys.
