Texas alligator law restricts ownership and requires permits
The 61st legislature enacts SB 170 to protect the American alligator in Texas. Private preexisting alligators may be retained under state control with a zoological permit from the Parks and Wildlife Dept. Propeller Accident Kills Dallas Man
Donald Chastain 21 of Dallas was decapitated when he stepped into a moving airplane propeller after helping move a stalled small plane. Investigators state the motor was off but propeller still turning as the victim approached. Charles Crider, a pilot, was present.

DeSapio Convicted in Bribe Conspiracy Case
A federal jury found Carmine G. DeSapio guilty of bribe conspiracy in a case linked to former Water Commissioner James Marcus. Co defendant Antonio Corallo was convicted on one count. DeSapio faces up to 15 years and a $30,000 fine. Corallo could receive up to five years and a $10,000 fine.

POWS Back Peace Moves After Vietnam Captivity
Two American helicopter crewmen released by the Viet Cong voiced antiwar views in Tokyo. Sgt. Vernon C. Shepard of Akron Ohio said he will back peace groups and may speak publicly while Warrant Officer Michael T.
