Cloudy and cooler conditions extend through Wednesday with occasional rain in the east. Northwest areas face cooler nights, with lows in the 20s to 50s and highs ranging from 45 to 74 depending on region. Panhandle and South Plains see light snow and scattered showers, while the coast experiences easterly winds and occasional rain.
President Johnson welcomed Pakistani President Mohammed Ayub Khan for talks focused on Kashmir and Asian stability. Funeral services for W H Mason 74 a retired rancher will be at 3 p m Wednesday at East Side Church of Christ with Richard Williams officiating. Burial follows at Hillside Memorial Gardens under Bell Seale Funeral Home direction. Mason died Monday in Cogdell Memorial Hospital. He lived at 2707 Twenty-eighth Street and was born October 22, 1891 in Wilson County. He married Maggie Williams September 5, 1912 in Brady and is survived by two daughters four sons a sister a brother 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
U S Secretary of State Dean Rusk urged NATO members to expand support beyond Europe to Asia including Vietnam. He warned a Communist victory in Vietnam could erode NATO credibility and prompt new Yugoslav or other crises while stressing no demand for direct military commitments.
London reports near agreement with Saudi Arabia to form a joint air defense system for the Western alliance. Britain and the United States would fund antiaircraft missiles and a radar network worth about 100 million dollars, with British authorities hopeful of signing soon.
The Associated Press reports snow rain and fog across the country with heavy freezing drizzle in New England. Rockies and Plains see several inches while Denver and North Platte report two inches. Texas and Louisiana get rain. Winds downed poles in the Dakotas. 3,400 North Dakota families lose power.
The U S Weather Bureau forecasts snow over the Texas Panhandle and South Plains on Tuesday as a slow moving cold front nears from the north. Rains are expected in East South Central and North Central Texas with little temperature drop. Dalhart reports 28 degrees early Tuesday.
