Federal grand jury in Kansas City charged Clyde Julian Foley known as Red Foley with two counts of income tax evasion for 1954 and 1955. He owes $28,498 to the government after a jeopardy assessment of $270,323. Foley denies any law violation and says his attorneys will show no wrongdoing. Walter Williams, 117, the last surviving Civil War veteran, is said by a Houston doctor to be sinking rapidly. The physician estimated the veteran may live only 24 to 48 hours as respiration worsens and pulse becomes irregular. Williams remains incoherent though attempts to speak.
