A large anti Soviet demonstration in Stettin ended with windows smashed and policemen beaten. Polish authorities called in troops and workers militia to disperse the crowd. Officials blamed drunken hooligans, while sources say students and young workers organized the protest.
Mrs Lillian Taylor welcomed a daughter Charlotte Rose at 12 35 am in Pasadena Clinic as son Marion Richard Taylor, 3, died in a house fire that gutted the Taylor home. Heroic 15 year old Donald Gene Taylor saved Linda Charlene, 10, while Marion perished. family remains unaware of the tragedy amid Christmas plans. Fire cause undetermined.
Scurry County bought a T-500 Gallion with torque converter and power-shift transmission from Plains Machinery Co. of Abilene for 15,390 dollars net of trade difference with a used 118 Gallion. Other bids were 19,393 and 16,000 dollars from competing firms.
Frank Jones, 67, mayor of Garber and longtime editor publisher of the Garber Free Press, died in a hospital in Enid Oklahoma yesterday after 25 years leading the town’s paper and serving as mayor.
Secretary of State John Foster Dulles warned that internal pressures within the Soviet Union could topple communism and avert a global war, urging NATO ministers to press for moral action and UN adherence while noting a double standard for Britain and France over U N decisions.
Texas Atty. Gen. John Ben Shepperd volunteered to help defend 16 Tennessee citizens arrested on contempt charges in the Clinton school disturbances. He said the court order against interfering with orderly integration by thought, word or deed was too broad. The offer was announced by the Tennessee Federation for Constitutional Government noting nine lawyers nationwide, including two state attorneys general, had volunteered.
The cold front heading for the Texas Panhandle stalled along the Kansas Oklahoma border. The U S Weather Bureau said temperatures would change little through Wednesday due to a new low pressure area developing in the Pacific Northwest. The front’s southward move paused while mild conditions persisted in most of Texas.
Hearings to prevent selling milk below cost are set Friday in Brownsville federal court and Monday in Edinburg district court. Defendants include South Texas Milk Producers Assn and other associations, Hygeia Milk Products Co. of Harlingen has brief restraining orders on interstate and intrastate sales. Hygeia alleges price fixing and a price squeeze to force it to reduce costs.
New York prosecutors postponed Johnny Dio’s trial on charges tied to the acid attack on labor writer Victor Riesel. Jury selection was scheduled to begin today, with the trial moved to next spring.
Two hundred fugitives from Hungary begin a massive airlift to the United States in Operation Safe Haven. Four C118 transports carry 50 women 41 children and 109 men to McGuire AFB New Jersey, with onward placement at Camp Kilmer.
Ten youths from Scurry and Borden Counties join 148 Buffalo Trail Council boys at the fourth Boy Scouts Jamboree in Valley Forge Pennsylvania July 12 to 18. From Lone Buffalo District 22 attend, 12 from Mitchell County. Earl Stubbs will scoutmaster. Faculty details include transport costs of 250 per day and trips to Philadelphia New York Washington Detroit.
Mrs. B. A. Crumley 61 of Lamesa dies in a two vehicle crash on U S Highway 180 about 25 miles west in Borden County. Audrey Reese of Plains and W H McGee of Colorado City injured. Crumley pronounced dead on arrival. Funeral services pending.
Vienna reports the Hungarian government will seize the property of all residents who left Hungary since the October rebellion. The move accompanies a 48 hour general strike crackdown and mass worker transport. About 130000 refugees in Austria face loss of rights unless they return by March 31 1957. Janitors must report names of those who left. Authorities will inventory left property.
Tens of thousands of Hungarian workers strike nationwide against Premier Janos Kadar. Budapest transportation stalls as police and Soviet troops enforce martial law amid mass arrests and signaling a spreading action into provinces and border towns.
At the United Nations General Assembly the Hungarian delegation left the room in protest against what they called U N interference in Hungary's internal affairs. Foreign Minister Imre Horvath announced the boycott would continue while the Hungarian situation was debated. India and three Asian allies proposed sending Dag Hammarskjold to Moscow to negotiate for Russian troop withdrawal.
Lt. Gen. A. D. Bruce was named chancellor as the University of Houston adopted a chancellor president system. He had served as president since 1954. Clanton Williams was named president.
Washington reports that efforts to punish Communist led unions under Taft Hartley and the Communist Control Act have stalled. The Supreme Court ruled only officers who file false affidavits can be punished, not the unions themselves. Eisenhower plans new revisions to address Communist influence in labor.
The Snyder school board meets at 7 30 tonight in the high school cafeteria to open bids on the Abraham Lincoln School addition. A $160 000 bond funded the wing with about 9000 square feet on the east side. Bids for general contract plumbing and heating and electrical may be a single bid or separate.
In Frederickburg Texas Otto Cowan 79 shot his wife 80 while cleaning a rifle and called a neighbor to report the tragic accident. He then killed himself saying he could not live without her. Justice of the Peace ruled accidental death and death by own action.
George Hender Son, 47, of Colorado Springs, died in a collision last night when his car struck a truck in Amarillo.
Oklahoma Louisiana and Texas raised weekly crude oil and condensate output by 168 800 barrels to 7 272 450 in the week ending December 6 The Journal estimates 1956 production at 2 447 576 950 barrels up from 2 320 210 990 a year earlier Oklahoma gained 54 900 barrels to 601 500 Louisiana 53 750 to 897 400 and Texas 51 800 to 3 057 900 driving most of the net increase.
A special city council meeting is scheduled for 9:45 a m Thursday. The agenda includes only a brief session to discuss the contract for water sewer and street paving for Humble Oil and Refining Co s camp on Thirty seventh Street.

Weatherford Texas House Speaker Sam Rayburn will break ground for a six million dollar Brazos Electric Power Co op power plant at Weatherford Lake seven miles east of Weatherford and one mile north of the Fort Worth Weatherford Highway. U S Rep Jim Wright of Weatherford will give the principal address. The lake dam is completed to augment city water supply. The ceremony begins at 2 30 p m.
Snyder Chamber of Commerce plans two special awards at its January 25 banquet. One honors the top Snyder businessman of 1956, the other the top Scurry County farmer. Winners chosen mainly on enterprise and local impact, with no age limit for nominees.
