The Snyder Chamber of Commerce failed to find local Santa Clauses this season and imported a former resident now working in a neighboring town. He will appear on the square shortly after 4 p.m. tomorrow, continuing a holiday tradition in spite of sparse local applicants.
Three Potter County Jail escapees from Amarillo were recaptured near Scurry County Courthouse after forcing their way with a weapon at DPS Officer Keith Pherigo. They confronted him while en route to the courthouse. Pherigo, with Officer Pat Alexander, regained control. Suspects include Charles Rumbaugh 18, Michael Joe Sutton, and Roger Barrett 24. a female companion was captured later. Charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer were planned.
President Ford signs congressional authorization for 2.3 billion in loans to New York City to avert default. The package includes a 1 million dollar 1976 admin cost and a 315 thousand dollar transitional period expense. Senate and House moves center on a bankruptcy law change to allow an orderly municipal default.
On December 9 1941 Japanese troops invaded the Philippines beginning the Pacific war. John Milton was born in London in 1608 and Noah Webster founded New Yorks first daily newspaper in 1798. Snyder area reports a Monday high of 66 and overnight low near 30 with a 7 am reading of 39. Northwest and Southwest Texas remain fair through Wednesday with night lows near 30 to the upper 20s mountains and Wednesday highs from the mid 60s to upper 70s. North Central and Northeast Texas stay fair through Wednesday with a tonight 35 to 40 and Wednesday 65 to 72. South Central and Southeast Texas are fair to partly cloudy through Wednesday with tonight 32 northwest to 48 south and Wednesday 78 to 84. Coast winds northeast 5 to 15 knots with seas 2 to 4 feet.
The United States vetoed a Security Council resolution condemning Israeli air attacks on Palestinian camps in Lebanon. Moynihan argued the measure was one sided for not condemning Palestinian violence. Nine votes were needed for amendments, but they failed.

Los Angeles AP Sen Frank Church chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee says he may seek the Democratic nomination in 1976. He plans to form a committee next week to assess organizing and fundraising capacity for a late entrant campaign.
Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger called as a total falsehood the charges that he shielded President Ford from knowledge of alleged Soviet breaches of nuclear arms accords.
Rice University receives a one million dollar gift from the Cameron Foundation honoring Harry S. Cameron founder of Cameron Iron Works. The endowment will fund the Harry S. Cameron professorship in mechanical engineering, announced by university president Dr. Norman Hackerman.
