Leslie Henry King, 53, president Gerald Ford's half brother, was killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 40 near Lebanon Tennessee a tractor trailer loaded with pipe. He lived in Cookeville Tennessee and owned an auto parts store.
The Queen Elizabeth II arrived in Boston harbor ahead of schedule amid a three foot by one foot gash in her bow after an anchor ripped the hull in heavy seas. Cunard Line said the damage would not delay its Friday sailing and Pat terson Wylde & Co. confirmed preparations proceed. In Salt Lake City inmates and officials prepared for Gary Gilmore's Monday sunrise execution, with the warden indicating details would aim for efficiency, and plaintiff requests to face executioners without blindfolds remained unsettled.
President Ford considers requesting Congress to outlaw sex discrimination for recipients of federal funds in employment and operations across programs that affect nearly all communities. Administration officials said the draft legislation targets women’s equal rights in federally funded activities.

Snyder and Sweetwater are excluded from Lone Star Gas Co rate increase requests this winter. Darwin Melton, local manager, cited prior rate hike actions as the reason Snyder and Sweetwater are not included in the present filing.
FBI Director Clarence M. Kelley states he does not plan to resign despite Carter's hints he would appoint his own FBI head. Kelley recounts past gifts and living-room drapery work reimbursements, says no meeting with Carter is arranged, and notes Ford rejected firing him.

The Texas Railroad Commission said it will oppose abandonment of 39 miles of the Abilene and Southern Railway Co line from Abilene to Winters. An ICC hearing on the application is set for Monday in Winters. If the firm proves the line operates at a loss, the commission cannot continue to oppose abandonment, said James Corden.
Six prizes from last week's Snyder Spectacular in Santa's Snyder remained unclaimed this morning at the Chamber of Commerce office. The $200 prize two $150 prizes and three $50 prizes were still available. unclaimed tickets must be picked up by noon Friday or be carried over to the next drawing.
