Texas Hit by Cloudbursts and Tornado Near Mineral Wells
A tornado struck near Mineral Wells as cloudbursts caused flash floods across West Central Texas. The twister damaged Texboro Cabinet Co. and Perry Equipment buildings while a man, John Guess, was treated for burns from a lightning strike nearby. Rainfall totals reached over three inches in some towns with high totals reported in Newport, Kaufman, and Denison.

Rites Today For Mrs. Pruitt in Scurry County
Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Pruitt 94 a longtime Scurry County resident were held at Bell Seale Chapel with Rev John Duke and Rev Marvin Rogers officiating. Burial followed at Snyder Cemetery. She died Monday night at Snyder Hospital after a long illness. Born June 26 1872 in Alabama she married Oscar Preston in 1888 and after his death married E T Pruitt. Survivors include four daughters three sons a sister a brother 23 grandchildren 49 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren.

Governor Romney declined immediate National Guard troops as Benton Harbor faced a second night of unrest. An 18 year old Negro, Cecil Hunt, was shot and died after a car sighting by police. Police reported 14 arrests for disorderly loitering during a downtown protest. Nearby Waukegan Illinois imposed a 730 curfew and eviction proceedings began against a public housing tenant arrested in rioting.
