North Korea agreed to a Wednesday session of the joint Korean Military Armistice Commission to discuss safety for Americans in the DMZ. The United States demanded a meeting, sought assurances that U S personnel would be safe, and reinforced forces near Korea as both sides remained on alert.
Tropical Storm Emmy, with winds near 65 mph, was expected to strengthen into a hurricane later today as it moved northwest from the Atlantic. The center was located about 625 miles south of Bermuda, with gale force winds extending 125 miles. Forecaster Paul Hebert said conditions remained favorable for hurricane development.

Cairo reports three Arab hijackers say Muammar Khadafy promised them 250000 dollars after their attempt to seize an EgyptAir jet to Libya. Libyan government denies the accusation and counters the report.
Scurry County commissioners approved a 5.88 million budget for 1977 and set the tax rate at 9.42 cents per 100 valuation. The general fund rises to 2,577,676, with the hospital around 2.5 million. Property values drop from 243 million to 213 million, prompting a higher rate despite little revenue change.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co and the United Rubber Workers union reach a tentative three year master contract likely ending a 126 day strike. The deal includes a $1.35 average hourly raise over three years, a cost of living allowance and substantial pension and benefit boosts.

Carter accused Ford of vetoes causing suffering while adjusting his Los Angeles and Seattle remarks. Dole, Ford running mate, scheduled to appear with Carter at events in Des Moines and Vail while urging a broader GOP coalition and liberal Republicans to join the campaign.
