Texas state Senator George Parkhouse a conservative Democrat who helped craft the right to work law and led water conservation measures, died early today in Dallas at age 67 after repeated strokes. He chaired major water committees and was known for his tenacious filibusters and fierce independence. Parkhouse, who lost an arm and a leg in youth, contrasted his handicap with a relentless drive to push legislation across retirement plans, labor relations, and banking.
City firefighters responded to four incidents on Wednesday. At the T. C. Kenner farm on Camp Springs Road two trailer houses and two sheds were destroyed but the house was saved. A minor electrical fire at 807 Nineteenth Street was blamed on coins in fuse boxes with smoke filling the home. A grass fire in Greenhill Addition on Canyon was extinguished in the afternoon, and an air conditioner fire at J. R. McCrary’s Towle Park Road home caused minor damage.
