Banks Hit in New York Daylight Raids Raise City Heist Toll

Claude Ventry Bridges, 31, a Texas Tech graduate student, was found beaten and sexually assaulted at his home after missing an oral dissertation test. Autopsy indicates fatal crushing of the lamyx as furniture lay overturned and Bridges was found in underwear.

All New Cooking School Set for Sept Twenty Fifth

Police arrested two suspects after a bank robbery at University State Bank in Fort Worth, with $3,000 taken and remaining unrecovered.

Carter okays U S export of fuel to Iran

President Carter said he personally approved a one time export of 47 million dollars worth kerosene and diesel fuel to Iran to ease shortages. Commerce licenses issued Aug 3. The sale, managed by Amerada Hess, valued at about 55 cents per gallon, could move close to 2 million gallons. Oil Daily first reported the action amid Iran supply disruptions.

Meeting Set For Chamber Members

The Snyder Chamber of Commerce schedules a general membership meeting for Tuesday August 28 at 7 p m in Western Texas College fine arts auditorium. Bill Warner chamber manager says notices are going out today and hopes for strong member attendance. The session will brief members on chamber operations and seek input for future projects and activities. Jury Deliberating Murder Case Involving 22 Year Old Defendant

A six man six woman jury began deliberations today on the murder trial of David Lee James charged with killing 23 year old Donna Lee Byrom on July 4 at a Northeast Snyder apartment. Byrom died after being shot in the stomach with a 30-30 rifle eight days later at Cogdell Memorial Hospital. Trial started Monday in 132nd District Court with final arguments heard this morning. Court-appointed attorney Gary Terrell represents the defendant.

Snyder Chamber Banquet Reservations Open for Sept 20

Reservations are being accepted for the Snyder Chamber of Commerce annual banquet to be held Sept 20 at the Scurry County Coliseum. Eddie Chiles, president of The Western Co., will speak. A drilling rig derrick collapsed on sleeping quarters killing one man and injuring six. Coast Guard says 28 workers were aboard. cause undetermined. Injured evacuated by Coast Guard and civilian helicopters. Rig owned by Circle Bar Drilling Co. of Belle Chasse.

Clements Aides Try To Soothe Coastal Judges

Gov. Bill Clements aides arrived to tour oil stained Texas beaches meet with county judges and defend his "much to do about nothing" remarks. They noted early warnings and said disaster declarations could come after talks with six county judges. Coast Guard moved equipment up the coast in case of further slicks and skimmers prepared for Cavallo Pass defense.
