Liberal Democrats filibustered to block a reapportionment compromise in the Senate. Leaders warned a court-ordered plan might be delayed as the congressional session winds down next week.
New York AP report states the State Department tentatively withdrew passports of 84 American youths who traveled to Cuba in defiance of a U.S. ban. Upon return to Kennedy Airport, several were summoned to testify before HUAC. At least one tearfully claimed Communist affiliation as they sought to delay or block the Mansfield-Dirksen amendment in Congress.
Standard Oil company and Marathon Oil announce drilling sites in Knox County and Kent County with tests showing potentials such as a 330 barrel daily production and 4122 gravity oil in various pools. Locations include Borden County near Vealmoor, Strawn Jayton Old Glory area, and Stonewall County near Aspermont. Other wells completed or plugged near Snyder, Scurry, and Midland areas with depths ranging up to 7,200 feet.
Miss Franca Gea, Italian exchange student, arrives Monday afternoon for Snyder High School. A welcome ceremony at 3 30 p m on the courthouse north steps will be hosted by city officials and the American Field Service chapter to greet her. The event lasts about 30 minutes.
