Washington AP reports new federal rule will require 1974 model automobiles to have air bags or ignition interlock systems that prevent starting unless seat belts are fastened. Interlocks may be optional on some models, but no 1974 cars may be sold without such a system.

About 30 representatives from Snyder and other towns met in Austin for a Port to Plains highway planning session. Snyder Independent School District trustees approved higher meal prices at 45 cents for elementary 55 cents for secondary and 60 cents for adult lunches with extra milk rising to 10 cents. They adopted a boys hair length standard and outlined excused unexcused and truancy rules. The board also approved new staff hires across several campuses.
Vice President Spiro Agnew offered prosecutors access to personal records in a Maryland kickback probe. He stressed these are personal papers, not official records, and said staff will copy and verify items. No date for exam arrival was given.
