Snyder Flood Destroys Town Bridges After Heavy Rains

Torrential weekend rains created the largest flood in Snyder since 1939, submerging Deep Creek and Dry Run Creek areas. One death reported Mrs. Cora Barrington Tate drowned north of town. extensive property damage and several hundred people marooned. National Guardsmen aided rescues as water utilities and several businesses sustained flood damage. Officials expected costs to reach into the millions with widespread infrastructure impacts.

Lakes Catch Heavy Rain Runoff In Texas Reservoirs

Heavy rains in Scurry and Borden Counties will send about 25 000 acre feet of water to Lake J B Thomas and Lake E V Spence. Lake J B Thomas rose 3 7 feet to 2231 6 this morning as the Colorado River ran 112 feet deep with Bull Creek at 12 feet. Spence awaits runoff from Deep Creek and other streams, with an expected rise of 5 to 6 feet as water reaches Tuesday.

Walter M. Wasson Rites Held in Snyder

Funeral services for Walter M. Wasson age 70 were set for 2 p.m. today at Bell-Seale Chapel in Snyder. Wasson, a Scurry County native and retired farmer, died Sunday at Cogdell Memorial Hospital. Burial followed in Snyder Cemetery. Survived by wife Audrey White Wasson of Snyder, sister Hattie Gatlin, and half brother R. W. Webb.
