Fort Worth AP reports chief prosecutor Jack Strickland states the state will prove Cullen Davis commanded or induced a friend and business associate to hire a killer to murder his divorce judge and others. The opening statement emphasizes Davis’s involvement and intent in the planned murders.
Offshore sea birds diving into a massive Mexican oil slick near SOUTH PADRE ISLAND died from contamination. The two blue-face boobies were found dead and after rescue attempts, one washed ashore while the other died at Laguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge. The slick crossed into U.S. Gulf waters 500 miles south of Texas.
In Rosemont Illinois the roof of a four story stadium under construction near O'Hare collapsed after a plane flew over. Officials fear two to five workers were killed with about 100 on site. Investigators say it is too soon to link the plane to the collapse. A hospital spokesman expected five deaths. Leyden Township fire officials confirmed two to five fatalities.
In Montgomery, police with Tiot equipment and a concealed pistol escorted, blocked, and arrested nearly 200 Klansmen entering the city without a permit as they attempted a 50 mile march from Selma toward the Capitol grounds.

In a federally ordered election, Houston residents approved a plan to expand the city council to 14 members with nine elected from single member districts. Irving voters backed a Pro position 13 type proposal capping overall property tax increases at six percent and limiting any single resident tax hike to eight percent.
At least six Haitians including a mother and three children drowned when refugees were forced from a boat at gunpoint in Palm Beach County. Three others were missing. nine who swam to shore were arrested as illegal aliens and jailed at South Palm Beach.
The American Junior Rodeo Association finals closed after five days with top champions returning for short go runs. Scurry and Borden counties claimed multiple winners including Adam Brewster Ronnie Rosas Tanya Boydston Talley Griffin Brice Key and Gayla Newton. Rosas scored 78 in junior bull riding the only win score among the four boys. Boydston posted 31.34 seconds in pole bending. Griffin clocked 15.12 and Key 15.37 in barrel racing. Newton ran pole bending in 25.60 seconds. Special awards went to Les McFadden Robert Joe Hodge Freddie Hernandez Buck Jones Ralph Miller and Darrel Lambert.
NOAA forecasts indicate large patches of oil from a Mexican well could reach southern Padre Island within 24 hours, with shorelines east of Port Mansfield at risk. Offshore patches remain about 20 miles out as two skimming rigs relocate to Port Aransas for precautionary measures.
