Clark toured Vietnam with the International Commission for Inquiries into U S War Crimes in Indochina. He also commented on Haiphong bombing damage and said many people were not killed despite the scale of destruction.
Reports indicate Clark’s statements about bombing a leper hospital and a school were edited in radio broadcasts. Friday’s Hanoi interview included two sentences and two fragments from Thursday. The missing portion claimed schoolchildren were away on vacation and Clark declined to judge American pilots yet.
