Mechanical heart device implanted at Mt Sinai hospital
A 63 year old Warren Michigan man, Haskell Shanks, received a partially mechanical heart patch booster at Mt Sinai Hospital in Detroit. Surgeons led by Dr Adrian Kantrowitz implanted the air powered pump designed to aid a failing heart, with the operation finishing around 5 am. Shanks had congestive heart failure for a year and the device is a newer smaller simpler version. Shanks is a Uniroyal plant guard in suburban Warren.

Snyder Public Schools Board Sets Budget and Tax Meeting
The Snyder Board of Trustees scheduled a special noon meeting for Wednesday August 25 to amend the current budget adopt a next year budget and set a tax rate. Showers Continue in Snyder Through August Rainfall
Rain fell in the Snyder area with 1.2 inches added yesterday, bringing August total to 5.97 inches with much of the month remaining. Water entering Lake J. B. Thomas rose nine inches today, lifting the three day total about two feet three inches as gauges show continuing rainfall.
