The AJRA National Finals begin tonight at Scurry County Coliseum with youths from across the nation competing through Saturday for 36 saddles 60 trophy buckles 30 jackets and cash prizes including a $1 000 added to the short go round Saturday night. Local donors sponsor saddles buckles jackets and other prizes with Chamber of Commerce backing the added money and badges stalls and buckles from numerous contributors.

College Budget Gets Approval For 1976 77 At Western Texas
Scurry County Junior College District trustees approved a 1976 77 budget of about 3.1 million for Western Texas College and set the tax rate at 34.4 cents per 100 valuation, down from 40.7. The rate rises taxes due to an assessment ratio increase to 25 percent, with 9.85 cents for debt service and 24.55 cents for maintenance and operation. The budget includes up to 300 thousand more for permanent improvements and funds welding and cosmetology expansion. Euna Vallene Turney was named cosmetology instructor. Sharon Sutton was hired as director of the Scurry County Museum. The board approved a new electronic private branch exchange to be installed at about 38 thousand with monthly savings of around 600. Minor policy revisions were approved and a word processing center proposal was tabled.
