Seven Teens Die After Car Trapped by Train Collision
SHALLOWATER Tex AP seven Olton area youths en route to a church picnic were killed when a Santa Fe passenger train at 79 mph struck their stalled automobile. The crash occurred near Lubbock while the group awaited transport to a park for a First Baptist Olton picnic. The victims, all teens from Olton and nearby communities, included Barbara Fancher Diane Smith Carolyn Carson Sharon Miller James Loveless Bill Shirey and Everett Baldwin. Jimmy Lawson survived, hospitalized after fleeing the wreck. Community mourning followed with funeral plans pending.

Manuel Medina former president of the defunct Zapata bank was found guilty of taking deposits while knowing the bank was insolvent. He received a five year suspended sentence after a five hour jury deliberation. A second indictment against Medina was postponed until October.
Recreation Bill Passed By Senate
Washington reports the Senate approved a bill authorizing 50 million dollars in federal grants to states to plan recreation programs. States must begin planning before July 1, 1966 to qualify. Washington would cover up to 75 percent of planning costs the first year, 50 percent the second, and 35 percent for the next three years.
