A limited issue brochure promotes a ranch headquarters display at Texas Tech on a 10 acre site within a 76 acre International Center for Arid and Semi Arid Land Studies. The J Wright Mooar ranch house is featured among period buildings planned for relocation and furnishing.
U S forces fighting two ambushes in the Can Tho River area sprayed the Mekong Delta village of Cai Rang with automatic fire. The village reported 16 dead and 120 wounded among civilians and soldiers, while U S forces suffered casualties in a large Mekong Delta sweep that killed hundreds of Viet Cong and seized caches. Two ambushes occurred five hours apart as American convoys moved along the river near Cai Rang, 83 miles southwest of Saigon. Casualties included 15 Vietnamese civilians and one government soldier killed, with 105 civilians and 15 soldiers wounded. The operation aimed to push deeper into the delta, with parallel heavy fighting near Gio Linh resulting in 7 South Vietnamese deaths and 56 wounded.
Today marks 222 days into 1968 with notable events ranging from the 1945 Nagasaki bombing to the 1831 Albany to Schenectady steam railway run. Other milestones include Spain ending the Spanish American War in 1898 and Gandhi's 1942 arrest.
Snyder area records a Thursday high near 98 degrees and a 7 am reading of 71 degrees. Panhandle zones expect clear to hot conditions with late storms possible, lows 65 to 77 and Saturday highs 94 to 105. North Central Texas remains hot with lows 74 to 80 and highs 97 to 106. Northeast to Southeast Texas see mostly clear to partly cloudy skies with scattered thundershowers and highs from 88 to 99. Southwest and West Texas stay warm with similar upper 80s to 100s and scattered thunderstorms mainly over mountains in the west.
Prague readies a large public welcome for Yugoslav President Tito to thank him for backing Czechoslovakia against Moscow aligned regimes. Band students at Lamar and Travis Junior High Schools begin two weeks of sessions on Monday. 8th and 9th graders are urged to attend to fill fall marching band spots, with 7th graders grouped by woodwinds and brass later in the day. 7th graders starting in band who missed June are asked to call band directors Roe or Lashaway.

About 300 students clashed with police near the University of the Republic in Montevideo in protest of a predawn raid tied to the kidnapping of Dr Ulises Pereira Recerbel, adviser to President Jorge Pacheco Areco. The Tupamaro group claimed and later retracted reports, creating confusion without immediate casualties.

O J Archie, and Mrs. Vera Mae High were chosen to join county and city officials and Snyder School Board members to oversee Abilene’s poverty programs. Twenty three people attended.
