Snyder and Hermleigh to Merge Local Telephone Service
Southwestern Bell manager Cecil Fowler announced a merger of Snyder and Hermleigh telephone systems in early 1968. The plan, requiring about 18 months of engineering, will allow direct local calls between the two cities eliminating long distance charges and expanding local access to over 8,000 phones. Snyder rates will stay unchanged while Hermleigh rates will rise.

Tear Gas Breaks Rally In Grenada Mississippi
Civil rights leaders report state highway patrolmen used tear gas to disperse a Negro voter registration rally outside a cafe in Grenada. They say about 600 people gathered as federal registrars worked, with 30 troopers firing roughly 20 tear gas canisters and gunshots alleged by witnesses. State police countered that only about 10 patrolmen were on duty.
