Chamber of Commerce aids Western Texas College students by tracking off campus housing since all dormitory space is sold out. Chamber invites offers and prompts calls to 573 3558. Also notes Snyder High football prep and AP doubles college schedule pages with 11 games limit.
The Texas House voted 128 to 16 to impeach District Court Judge O P Carrillo of Duval County on ten counts. If the governor suspends him for trial in the Senate, a Labor Day after-leaning timetable is expected. Articles allege misuse of funds, government contracts tied to private business, and false financial statements among other charges.
The Snyder City Council on first reading approves a $2,049,253 budget for the new fiscal year and keeps the ad valorem tax rate at 1.85 per 100. Revenue gains come from water sewer and garbage rate increases, higher city sales tax, and delinquent tax collections. A two year delinquent tax collection contract with Tom Gordon of Abilene is approved. The budget funds a capital improvement program including water treatment plant expansion and police building updates. A 4.75 percent contingency and a cost of living raise for staff are provided.
On August 5th 1963 the US Britain and the Soviet Union signed a treaty banning atmospheric space and underwater nuclear tests. Other milestones include the 1858 completion of the first Trans Atlantic cable and 1861 income tax in the United States.

President Ford told Japanese Prime Minister Takeo Miki that the United States will maintain a major role in Asia despite setbacks in Indochina. Nessen said the talks covered Asia security, détente, and arms talk with the Soviet Union, with Korea to be discussed later.
Israeli air force jets raided a suspected Arab guerrilla post in southern Lebanon and shelled a refugee camp while gunboats bombarded Tyre. Four Lebanese officers were killed and five guerrillas died in Tyre bombardment. Rockets hit Qiryat Shmonah as retaliation and jets continued the border assault.
The Japan Airlines DC8 arrived in Kuala Lumpur with five Japanese Red Army guerrillas freed from prison to swap for up to 50 hostages at the U S Embassy. The plane refueling and resting while officials pressed for a quick departure amid police security and ongoing negotiations.
The Select House Intelligence Committee voted to issue its first subpoena to obtain the directive setting up the National Security Agency after Dr. Albert C. Hall refused to bring it. Hall said he had not cleared it for the morning hearing. The panel heard from CIA Director Colby that covert operations are down but may need heavy use later.
