The U S command announced that last week 11 Americans were killed in Vietnam, 893 wounded and five missing as combat casualties dropped to the lowest level in six months. The prior week saw 164 killed and 1,442 wounded.
In Pasadena NASA reports a near perfect midcourse maneuver for Lunar Orbiter 5. The craft will reach the moon in days and begin photographic mapping of 99 percent of the far side to study crust formation theories.
The Associated Press reports Congress debates the rioting's causes as militant leaders draw scrutiny. Sen Eastland accuses rioters of following Communist tactics. Vice President Humphrey urged a Marshall Plan for impoverished areas and civil peace councils. In Milwaukee a youth was fatally shot amid ongoing unrest. Wyandanch and Providence saw lighter violence with fires and rock throwing subsiding.
Snyder reports 96 high and 70 low with 71 at 7 am. North Central Texas stays hot with clear to partly cloudy skies and thundershowers along the Red River Friday afternoon. Northeast and Southeast regions remain hot with similar conditions and warm nights. Northwest Texas cools slightly yet stays hot inland with late thundershowers. Panhandle expects lower highs, 89 to 101. Coast winds rise to 18 to 25 knots along the shore. Southwest Texas sees isolated storms mainly over mountains.
In Montevideo a nationwide wage dispute sparks mass strikes by about 200000 government workers demanding a 40 percent pay rise. Government says funds are unavailable while CNT leaders threaten a showdown. Power outages, transport halts, and rationing worsen living conditions amid drought and frost.
Douglas A. Fraser, head of the UAW Chrysler department, says management resists profit sharing and the union will wait to press demands. Walter Reuther had urged equity sharing in negotiations with Ford, Chrysler and GM, but Fraser notes striking over profit sharing is not warranted.
President Johnson seeks a 10 percent surcharge on individual and corporate income to cover war costs in Vietnam and would authorize an increase of 49 000 troops, raising total U S forces in Vietnam to 506 000. He calls for accelerated corporate tax payments and extends various excise taxes to boost revenue.
Tass reported China edging toward civil war with clashes among Red Guards workers students and soldiers in central and south regions. Witnesses described thousands killed or wounded as helicopters dropped leaflets urging an end to bloodshed.
The Navy will self examine how it informs relatives of sailors after the Forrestal fire. An admiral leads the probe into public identification of the dead and injured and the timing of casualty lists. Critics question delays in notifying families while weighing risks of premature disclosure.
Funeral services are pending in Pensacola Florida for Mr. F C Chavers of 502 Michigan Ave Pensacola. He died Wednesday night at his home. Survivors include daughter Mrs Cecil Boren of 3774 Avondale Snyder.

U S planes ferried 150 Congolese soldiers to Bukavu to bolster forces near Kivu Province as rebels and mercenaries move toward the Rwanda border. Rebels, numbered about 200 mercenaries and 800 Katangan troops, are reported stronger than Congolese units in the forested frontier area.
