Ward Nearing Death After Drug Overdose

Dr Stephen Ward remained unconscious and gravely ill at St Stephen's Hospital in London after a massive overdose and bronchial pneumonia. A hospital bulletin said there was no improvement in 12 hours, while Ward faced up to 14 years in prison for living off prostitutes Christine Keeler and Marilyn Rice-Davies.

Midwest Electric Elects Murff and Tate to Board

The Midwest Electric Cooperative held its largest membership meeting with over 3,000 attendees at the rodeo arena to elect two directors. J A Murff and Glenn Tate were re elected to Place No 1 and Place No 2 respectively. Johnnie Ammons reported a 154 percent margin for 1962 with total sales of 434 873 88 and the co op net worth near five million dollars. The meeting also featured Cayce Moore and a barbecue supper.

Hugh Boren Sr dies at 82 in Snyder rites set

Funeral services were scheduled for 3 pm Saturday at First Christian Church Snyder for Hugh Boren Sr 82 a pioneer resident of Snyder Burial was to be under Bell Funeral Home direction He died at 2 50 am at his home following a lengthy illness Born April 22 1881 in Ellis County he came to Scurry County in 1898 and held posts with Snyder National Bank Sny der National Farm Loan Association and the Hugh Boren and Son Insurance Agency He and his wife celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1958 He is survived by his wife Mrs Ross Lane Boren a daughter Mrs Helen Rogers a son Hugh Boren Jr two brothers and four grandchildren Pallbearers include A B Dodson Ross Blanchard and others.

Two Beauty Contestants In Collision At Miss Texas Pageant

Two Miss Texas contestants were in a late Thursday collision in Fort Worth. Karen Ann Sealey 18 Miss Port Arthur and Carole Rae Hall 17 Miss Groves were uninjured in their car while two teenage brothers in the other vehicle suffered injuries and one faced negligent driving charges.

Lopez Rites Saturday at Guadalupe Church

Mrs. Elvera Lopez, 54, of Snyder, born July 5, 1909, died after a heart attack at Cogdell Memorial Hospital. Funeral at Guadalupe Catholic Church Saturday at 11 am officiated by Father Peter Vergauwen with rosary Friday at 8:30 pm. burial in Snyder Cemetery. Fire Truck Involved In Mishap

A Snyder Fire Department truck collided with a 1957 Chevrolet at Avenue M and Twenty Fifth Street at 11 30 this morning. Fireman Ed Shuler drove the truck. Mrs Richard West sustained minor injuries and was treated at Cogdell Hospital. A passenger, Mrs James West, was hospitalized in non life threatening condition.

Trinity Navigation Project Approved as Feasible

The Texas Water Commission unanimously approves a $900 million Trinity River navigation project. It will expand barge traffic 370 miles inland to Fort Worth and is deemed feasible, non-detrimental, and in the public interest. Local groups Trinity Improvement Association and Trinity River Authority will bear $173 million.
