Secretary of State Cyrus R. Vance refused to disclose specifics of strategic arms talks with the Soviet Union. A senior U.S. official acknowledged progress in one key area while Vance warned that public discussion could harm negotiations and that Russia views such talks as propaganda.
In Houston Dr Barham Dajani of Jordan told reporters the United States holds 99 percent of the cards in moving peace in the Middle East. He spoke at a news conference during a trade mission with 25 Arab delegates seeking to link US energy firms with oil rich Arab nations.
ANSA reported a flurry of anonymous phone calls claiming Aldo Moro was executed by Red Brigades. The agency called all tips hoaxes after checks in Rome Turin and Milan found nothing. An alleged car trunk surprise near a Vatican area was not verified. In Tokyo the dollar slid over one yen on expectations of worse U.S. trade figures.

The House approved a broad farm credit bill and sent it to the Senate.
