A town missive lists ill residents including Wm Jacobs son with appendicitis and Ruth Humphery ill with indigestion. Visitors count May Fox from Bloomington and Grace Hainey staying with Lilly Deckard. Rev Reynolds begins work at Solsberry M E circuit as Huffman returns from several days away.
The Red Men announce a banquet tomorrow night at the Hall with speeches and band music. John Cutright resigns from the National Quarry and joins political work. Henry Bast will manage the National Derrick, Cutright’s former post. Tom Deckard sells his farm for a grain elevator coal and lumber yard near Danville Illinois and plans to move after March 3.
Public sale notice for a Thursday March 1 1901 auction at a residence four miles southeast of Smithvite. Starts 10 a.m. items include horses hogs farming implements hay and other articles. Terms: cash under 5 dollars, balance on credit with 7 months and 8 percent interest if paid late. Property to remain until notes are made. Auctioneers T M Deckard and R H Rice.
A. D. Chambers known as Denny Chambers has been named deputy postmaster at Bedford and moved his family there to begin work Monday. He previously invested in the telephone business and later taught in Harrodsburg schools before resigning last Friday to assume duties in Bedford. Another note from Wells: a Turkish dinner celebrated Mrs. Tell’s 51st birthday with jokes and singing.
Last week cold weather left many without coal as families hustled to keep warm. Charlie Martin and family visited friends in Bloomington Sunday. Miss Pearl Robinson spent Sunday with friends at Ellettsville. Miss Vesta Simmons, a North Vernon English teacher, was at home Saturday and Sunday. Thomas Randall is very ill with lung fever. George Dodd and family visited Pierce Dodds in Bloomington Monday. Mrs. Stewart of Oolitic spends a week with her sister, Mrs. Tell. Ralph Garrard visited friends at Sanders Sunday. The Bloomington report remarks on a local quip about going to H and the Irishman, with Simple Simon noted.
